Grafted Tomato Plant - F1 Crimson Cherry

The must have blight resistant tomato everyone should be growing this year!

Like the Crimson Crush the Grafted Tomato F1 Crimson Cherry has the best tolerance to late blight disease we have ever seen! But, as well as its ability to shrug off even the worst blight, Crimson Cherry will provide great yields of exceptionally fine tasting, large cherry tomatoes. A sweet-tasting tomato it is bred for outdoor growing. Even those gardeners who have had issues with blight in the past will find this variety more reliable. It's the tomato that everyone should be planting this year!

Why have we grafted Crimson Cherry?

Grafting onto specific rootstocks of course creates bigger, better, more disease-resistant plants with increased yield. Consequently, we believe, the extra vigour which the plant obtains will provide even better protection to late Blight attack, and the plants will grow away from any infection even more rapidly.

This variety is unique in that it has two resistance genes to Phytopthera infestans (Late Blight), giving it full resistance to all strains of blight currently found in the UK. So if blight spores come into contact wth the plant the infection will not spread throughout the plant.

It's been bred using natural methods and has been tested throughout the breeding process using Marker Assisted Selection (MAS).

Please note: With regards to the nature of the blight resistance, plants can still show infection (up to 15-20%) of leaves, stems etc. without effecting fruit quality or yield. The plants having the resistance to be able to grow away from the attack.

Pot up, and grow tomato plants on in warm frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Choose a sheltered position in full sun on fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and transplant at a distance of 60cm (24") apart. Alternatively grow tomatoes in patio bags and containers in good quality compost such as John Innes No. 2. Drive a (5') cane into the soil adjacent to each plant to support them as they grow, and tie each main stem to its support with soft garden twine.

So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
